You're invited to the Listening Works first outdoor social sculpture exhibition featuring 7 artists from Art Lab’s youth apprenticeship program. On Friday, August 22nd, the artists will be presenting their personal pieces at Glendale Park and engaging viewers in conversations about their work.
Each artist has channeled their lived experiences in the world to create powerful, deeply felt sculptures. Responding to the prompt “What would you like to express through your artwork?,” the pieces have become a vehicle to uplift what is truly important to the Listening Works artists, including exploring identity, fears, emotions, and world-building.
The group was inspired to use mannequin figures as the basis of their sculptures after a field trip to the ICA Watershed in Boston where they saw Hew Locke’s major installation, The Procession. Locke’s use of figures as a way to meaningfully connect with personal identity became a way for the artists to consider their own journeys in discovering themselves.
Join us in celebrating the work of these incredible artists!
Special thanks to The City of Everett, Everett Citizens Foundation, and the Art + Everywhere Innovation Grant, which have supported the Listening Works program.
